Foundation for Second Chances, Inc.

Foundation for Second Chances’ (FFSC) mission is to make sure that their children are being provided with the basic necessities such as a quality education, the opportunity to flourish in a safe and nurturing environment, an opportunity to build self-confidence and self-esteem, and the ability to achieve. FFSC’s target population is youth between the ages of 5 - 17 in South Los Angeles who are most at risk of academic failure and with no solid support system. FFSC provides educational, recreational, and leadership opportunities. In its first year (2004) FFSC established a collaborative relationship with the 42nd Street Elementary School, an under performing school attended primarily by African American and Latino students. Students who were identified as either Below Basic or Far Below Basic received tutoring, mentoring, and leadership development through organized community service projects.

For the 2006 - 07 year, FFSC has increased its enrollment to 40 students and has implemented two new programs - Spanish language instruction and the arts. Next year FFSC will adopt Audobon Middle School and extend its after school program offerings to students in grades 6 - 8.
